Buns
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 pkg yeast
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 Tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
- 2/3 cup + 1/2 cup white flour
- 1/2 Tbsp butter
- Dissolve sugar and yeast in water. Mix in egg, oil and salt. Add all flour and mix until dough comes together. Let the dough hydrate for 5 minutes.
- Kneed dough by hand or in a mixer on medium speed until it becomes elastic and smooth - 5-7 minutes. Return to mixer bowl, cover and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size.
- Remove dough from bowl and divide into 4 pieces for burgers, 6 for hot dogs. Shape rolls and place on a lined baking sheet. Cover loosly with plastic wrap and allow to rise 15-25 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375. Carefully remove plastic and brush with butter. Bake 15-18 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 190-200 degrees. Cool buns completely on a wire rack.
