Best Basic Sweet Potato Casserole
- 2 40 oz. cans cut sweet potatoes in syrup
- 2 t fresh lemon juice
- 3 T butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c heavy cream
- 2 t finely grated fresh orange zest
- 1/2 t freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/4 t ground cinnamon
- 1/4 t ground ginger
- 1/4 t salt, or to taste
- 1/4 t black pepper, or to taste
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine all ingredients until well mixed. Blend well until creamy (about an extra 2 minutes).
- Place in buttered, 9"x13" glass casserole dish. Level with a spatula. Bake in center of over for 355 minutes.
- Add marshmallows in a single layer and bake for 10 more minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool. Serve.
