Dorothy'S Orange Bread

  1. Remove white from orange skins of 4-5 oranges. Cut the rinds into fine strips enough to make 1/2 cup. Cover the orange rinds with water. Add baking soda and cook until rinds are tender. Drain, then add 1/2 cup water and sugar. Cook until thick and syrupy. Let cool. Beat 1 egg well and add 1/2 cup sugar. Beat well. Add milk and beat well. Add melted butter and beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt, and add nuts. Add liquid to dry ingredients and mix. Add orange peel. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour.
