Garlic Salt (Plain And Seasoned)
- 1 cup kosher salt
- 1/4 cup peeled garlic cloves (1 to 1-1/2 garlic heads)
- 1/4 (or more*) cup ground pepper (freshly ground peppercorns recommended)
- FOR PLAIN GARLIC SALT:
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat mat. Set aside.
- In a food processor, combine the salt and garlic. Process until the garlic is finely minced and the consistency is like moist sand, approximately 20 seconds. Pour salt/garlic mixture onto lined baking sheet; spread out evenly. Bake until dry and crisp, approx. 1 hour. Return to food processor and pulse until the consistency of cornmeal. Store in airtight container.
- FOR SEASONED GARLIC SALT:
- Follow above directions for making Plain Garlic Salt. Add ground pepper to garlic salt in food processor and pulse 2 or 3 times to combine. Store in airtight container.
- *For a less salty, more peppery seasoning, increase the pepper to as much as 1 cup. Or, adjust the ratio of salt to pepper to suit your personal taste.
- Use to season meats, vegetables, sauces, eggs, & popcorn.
