Mrs. Rotti'S Meatballs And Sauce

  1. To make the meatballs, soak 7 slices white bread in water, ring out.
  2. Fry the sweet and hot sausages in oil with a clove of garlic. Remove sausages from pan.
  3. Mix 1-2 pounds of ground beef with an egg, the bread, some hot pepper flakes and small amounts of oregano, basil, fresh chopped parsley, and a crushed garlic clove. Form meatballs, and fry in sausage pan.
  4. For sauce:
  5. In large heavy pot, heat olive oil, crushed clove garlic and one tbs tomato paste. cook, stirring, for 2-3 minutes. Add canned tomatoes, and spices, plus one teaspoon sugar.
  6. Add cut up peppers and onions. Add meatballs and sausages, pushing down into sauce.
  7. Bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer for 1 1/2 hours, partially covered. better if it sits in the fridge for a day. Can also be frozen.
