Old Fashioned Stack Cake

  1. Cream together sugar and shortening.
  2. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in molasses.
  3. Sift flour with spices.
  4. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk into which baking soda has been stirred.
  5. Use 2 cast-iron skillets for baking which have been greased and sprinkled lightly with flour.
  6. Warm skillets.
  7. Dip 2 heaping tablespoonfuls of dough which should be rather stiff, into center of each skillet.
  8. Wet hand in ice cold water and pat dough toward sides of skillet.
  9. Make a very thin layer.
  10. Bake at 375u0b0.
