Candy Cane Cookies
- 2 1/2 c flour
- 1 c confectioners sugar
- 1/2 c butter,softened
- 1/2 c shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp red food coloring
- 1/2 c peppermint candy (crushed)
- mixed with 1/2 c sugar
- Preheat oven to 375.
- Cream butter, shortening, powdered sugar, egg & extracts.
- Blend in flour & salt, then divide dough in half. Blend food coloring in one half.
- Shape 1 tsp of dough from each half in 4 in. ropes. Lay side by side, pinch ends together, and lightly twist into candy cane shape.
- Place on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake about 9 min. or until set and lightly browned on bottom.
- Sprinkle with candy mixture immediately while still hot.
