Chocolate Chip Cookies
- 2/3 c. soft shortening (part butter)
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. Gold Medal flour (for a softer, rounded cookie, add 1/4 c. more)
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (about 1 1/4 c.)
- Heat oven at 375u0b0.
- Mix shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla thoroughly.
- Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients; stir in.
- Mix in nuts and chocolate pieces.
- Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
- Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.
- Makes 4 to 5 dozen 2-inch cookies.
