Grandma'S Casserole
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 green pepper, cut in strips
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 lb. lean ground chuck
- 1 tsp. seasoned salt
- 1 tsp. monosodium glutamate (optional)
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 qt. (1 lb. 12 oz. can) whole tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 2 c. water
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. uncooked wide noodles
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. Mozzarella, sliced
- In Dutch oven, saute onion and green pepper in butter or margarine for 3 minutes.
- Add ground chuck and brown meat, breaking up meat with spoon as it cooks.
- Add seasoned salt, monosodium glutamate (optional), pepper and sugar.
- Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce and water.
- Heat mixture to boiling, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
- In a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan, layer tomato meat mixture, and noodles.
- Top with Mozzarella cheese.
- Make sure noodles are well covered by sauce.
- Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake in preheated 350u0b0 oven for 45 minutes.
- Cut and serve as you would lasagna.
- Makes 8 to 10 servings.
