Swamp Bottom Brownies
- 1 1/4 c. granulated sugar
- 1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 3 1/2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. butter, melted
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 c. firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 1 c. water
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- Grease 8-inch square baking pan.
- In large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, combine 3/4 cup granulated sugar, flour, 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt.
- Slowly add milk, butter and vanilla.
- Beat until smooth. Pour into greased pan.
- In 1-quart saucepan, heat remaining 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, brown sugar and water over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until thin syrup forms, about 7 minutes.
- Pour over batter in pan.
- Bake 40 minutes until brownies are firm in center.
- Cool on wire rack for 5 minutes.
- Cut into 12 rectangles and invert onto serving platter.
