Briased Beef Shin
- 1 kg Beef Shin
- 1 tbsp. Chopped Garlic
- 1 1/2 tbsp. five spice powder
- 120 g galangal
- 1 tbsp. black soy sauce
- 3 tbsp. light soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp. salt
- 3-4 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tbsp. peppercorn
- 100 g roof of coriander
- 3-4 cups water
- 1 tblsp corn oil
- Mix the 5 spice powder, galangal slices, soy sauces, coriander roots, sugar, salt and peppercorns and set aside.
- Heat oil and saute garlic till light brown.
- Add beef and the mixture above and fry for 5 minutes.
- Cover and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
- Add enough water to cover beef and cook over medium heat until boiling.
- Turn heat to low and simmer until beef is tender, about 3 hours.
- Stir occasionally and add more water if it dries too quickly.
- Serve the beef, sliced, and the thick gravy spread over the top and garnish with coriander leaf.
