Hot Italian Cheese Steaks
- 2 envelopes Italian salad dressing mix
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 flank steak, about 1 pound
- 1 large sweet onion, thinly sliced
- Bottled cheese sauce (for instance Cheese Whiz), room temperature
- 4 large hoagie or sub rolls
- Olive oil
- Combine oil and dressing mix in a large plastic re-sealable bag. Add steak and onion, shake to coat well and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Grill steak and onion slices over high heat until desired doneness, preferably 4 minutes each side for medium-rare. Set aside while preparing rolls.
- Cut rolls horizontally almost but not quite through, place directly on an oven rack and heat at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Cut steak across the grain into thin slices. Sprinkle cut surface of roll with olive oil, top with a fourth of the sliced steak, onions, and cheese sauce. Repeat with remaining 3 rolls.
