Favorite Refrigerator Dinner Rolls
- 3/4 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 to 3 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. shortening or margarine
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. lukewarm water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 c. flour
- salad oil or butter
- Combine hot water, sugar, salt and shortening.
- Cool to lukewarm.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- When sugar mixture has cooled to lukewarm, add to the dissolved yeast with the egg and 2 1/2 cups flour.
- Beat until smooth.
- Add enough of the remaining flour to make smooth dough.
- Turn out on lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic.
- Place in greased bowl, lightly oil top of dough and cover tightly.
- Store in refrigerator until doubled or until needed.
- Dough will keep 4 or 5 days.
- Punch down.
- Turn out on lightly floured board; divide into 3 pieces. Cut each piece into 9 pieces.
- Form into rolls.
- Place in 3 greased 8-inch round cake pans.
- Cover, let rise in warm place until double or about 1 hour.
- Bake in 375u0b0 oven for about 20 minutes.
- Yield: 27 rolls.
