Favorite Refrigerator Dinner Rolls

  1. Combine hot water, sugar, salt and shortening.
  2. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  4. When sugar mixture has cooled to lukewarm, add to the dissolved yeast with the egg and 2 1/2 cups flour.
  5. Beat until smooth.
  6. Add enough of the remaining flour to make smooth dough.
  7. Turn out on lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic.
  8. Place in greased bowl, lightly oil top of dough and cover tightly.
  9. Store in refrigerator until doubled or until needed.
  10. Dough will keep 4 or 5 days.
  11. Punch down.
  12. Turn out on lightly floured board; divide into 3 pieces. Cut each piece into 9 pieces.
  13. Form into rolls.
  14. Place in 3 greased 8-inch round cake pans.
  15. Cover, let rise in warm place until double or about 1 hour.
  16. Bake in 375u0b0 oven for about 20 minutes.
  17. Yield: 27 rolls.
