Ham And Cheese Strata

  1. This is for a big 9 x 13 pan---use a smaller pan if you have less bread
  2. (reduce everything else portionally) and don't feel confined to using a
  3. rectangular pan.
  4. Strata
  5. 20 slices bread
  6. 3 cups diced ham, canadian bacon or turkey
  7. 10 oz sharp cheddar grated
  8. 10 oz swiss grated
  9. Grease 9 x 13 in pan. Cut bread slices in half. (for fondue bread, it
  10. would be OK to just break up bread into bite size pieces.
  11. Make layers in pan
  12. BREAD then HAM then CHEESE
  13. repeat layering to make two layers
  14. Mix 6 eggs
  15. 3 cups of milk
  16. 1/2 tea. salt or onion salt
  17. 1/2 tea dry mustand (skip if you don't have this---this is not hot
  18. dog mustard)
  19. Pour over bread layers. Cover and refrigeratate overnight or for 24 hours
  20. Toss 3 cups of crushed corn flakes with 1/2 c. melted butter. Put on top of
  21. bread/cheese mixture. Bake at 375 for 50-60 minutes. Let stand 5-10
  22. minutes before serving
