Meal In One Bean Pot

  1. Rinse beans, removing any pebbles, etc. that might be in the package.
  2. In soup pot, cover the beans with water and heat to a boil.
  3. Turn off heat and cover the pot for about 2 hours.
  4. Add ham bone and cook for about an hour.
  5. Remove the ham bone from beans. If there is any ham left on the bone, add it to the soup pot.
  6. If you are using chopped, cooked ham instead of the ham bone, add it at this time.
  7. Also add the hash browns, tomatoes, butter, and black pepper.
  8. Continue cooking over medium heat until beans are tender.
  9. This will probably take about 30 minutes.
  10. Taste and add salt, if needed.
