Curious Cake
- 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
- 1 1/3 c. water
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 c. butter, creamed
- 1 pkg. or 14 oz. caramels
- 1/3 c. plus 2 Tbsp. evaporated milk
- 1 pkg. or 12 oz. chocolate chips
- 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
- whipped cream or topping
- Combine the cake mix, eggs, water and butter.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour one-half into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Bake 15 minutes at 350u0b0.
- Melt the caramels with evaporated milk over low heat.
- Pour over cake when removed from oven.
- (Do not spread all the way to edges.)
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over caramels and sprinkle nuts over chips.
- Pour rest of batter on top and bake for 30 minutes at 350u0b0.
- Do not overbake.
- Cool and top with topping. Refrigerate.
