Sesame-Orange Beef
- 4 t. cornstarch, divided
- 2 t. soy sauce
- 3/4 lb. beef tri-tip, thinly sliced across the grain
- 1/4 c. fresh orange juice
- 2 T. oyster sauce
- 1 T. honey
- 1 T. sesame seeds
- 2 T. vegetable oil
- 1 t. minced giner root
- 2 oranges, zested and segmented (pitch removed)
- 1/2 c. pineapple chuncks, fresh or canned
- 1. Marinade: combine half of cornstarch w/ soy sauce in large bowl; mix well. Add beef and stir to coat evenly. Let stand 10 minutes.
- 2. Sauce: combine OJ, oyster sauce, honey and remaining cornstarch in small bowl; stir until well mixed and set aside.
- 3. Toast sesame seeds by shaking med. pan over med. heat until golden; remove seeds from pan to cool and set aside.
- 4. Heat stir-fry pan over high heat. Add oil, swirling to coat sides of pan. Add ginger and cook, stirring, for about 10 seconds. Add beef, stirring until meat is carmelized on edges, about 2-3 minutes. Add sauce and blend well; boil and thicken slightly, about 20 seconds. Mix in both fruits; cook for 30 seconds to heat through.
- 5. Transfer to serving plate, sprinkle with toasted seeds and serve with noodles or rice.
