Best Apple Pie
- 1 1/3 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup crisco
- 3 tablespoons ice water
- 4-6 apples (1/2 pippin, 1/2 golden delicious green)
- 1 lemon
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Crust:
- Combine flour and salt in bowl.
- Cut on crisco with pastry blender or 2 knives, I cup at a time.
- Until mixture is uniform.
- Sprinkle a few drops of water at a time over the flour mixture.
- Toss w/a fork, then push moistened part aside and continue w/ remaining water and flour.
- Work dough into firm ball.
- Press dough into 2 flat circles.
- On lightly floured area, roll big enough to fit pie pan.
- Filling:
- Mix sugar salt and cinnamon.
- Sprinkle a layer in crust.
- Then a layer of apples, squeeze lemon over apples (watch for seeds) repeat finishing with sugar mixture.
- Put bitter or margarine over top in chunks (1 in middle and about 5-6 around edges) put 2nd crust over.
- Put milk and sprinkle sugar over top for glaze.
- Cut designs for air.
- Bake 425 degrees for 30-40 min.
- Poke knives into apples.
- Crust might get over done-okay!
