Strawberry Blonde Bread

  1. In a small saucepan bring to a boil and simmer the ale for 5 minutes to remove the carbonation.
  2. Add the butter and honey to the hot ale and stir until mixed. Allow the liquid to cool to 120 degree F.
  3. Combine flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl and mix. Make a well in the center and pour the warm liquid into it. With a large wooden spoon stir the liquid, gradually drawing in the flour. When the batter becomes too stiff to stir with a spoon begin to knead with your hands. If the dough is too wet add a small amount of flour. If it is too dry, add a small amour of water.
  4. Knead for 5 minutes. Cover in a bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise until it has doubled in volume (about 1 hour).
  5. Punch down the dough and knead for 5 minutes. Shape into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan to rise a 2nd time. Let it rise until it doubles in size.
  6. About 10 minutes before the dough is ready, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Beat 1 egg with 1 Tbsp water and brush the top of the loaf. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
