Seven Layer Dip Burgers
- For the burgers:
- 2 lbs ground sirloin
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon cayenne
- 6 hamburger buns or kaiser rolls (toasted)
- For the guacamole:
- 3 ripe avocados
- 1/4 cup diced red onion
- 2 peeled and minced garlic cloves
- Juice of two limes
- Salt and pepper to taste*
- Toppings:
- Sour cream
- Thinly sliced tomatoes
- Sliced cheddar or pepper jack cheese**
- Shredded lettuce
- For the burgers:
- Combine the spices and the meat; mix well.
- Form into six patties and cook over medium high heat (either on the stovetop or on the grill) for four minutes on each side for medium rare.
- Top with cheese during the last minute to melt.
- For the guacamole:
- Split the avocados in half lengthwise and remove the pit.
- Remove the flesh of the fruit and mash lightly with a fork, leaving some chunks.
- Mix in onion, lime juice, garlic, and salt and pepper*.
- Cover with plastic wrap to prevent browning until ready to use.
- To assemble burgers:
- Spread guacamole on the bottom buns and sour cream on the top bun.
- Top each bottom bun with a burger, and garnish with sliced tomatoes and shredded lettuce.
- *Finely chopped fresh jalapenos can be added if more heat is desired
- **Cheddar cheese is traditionally used in seven layer dip, but pepper jack cheese could be used as a tasty substitution.
