Baked Macaroni And Cheese
- 16 ounces elbow macaroni
- 1/2 cup butter
- 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
- 4 cups milk
- 5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 bread crumbs
- 3/4 cup shredded cheese (for topping)
- Cook macaroni for about 60% of the reccommended cooking time (on box/bag) - drain, cover & set aside.
- Preheat oven to 375.
- In medium saucepan melt butter, blend in flour, mustard, salt & pepper.
- Cook until mixture is smooth and bubbly; gradually add milk.
- Cook & stir over medium heat until mixture boils; simmer 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually mix in cheese. Stir over low heat until cheese is melted.
- Add pasta and sausage; mix together lightly & pour into large casserole.
- Mix together bread crumbs and shredded cheese and sprinkle mixture over top.
- Bake 25 minutes.
