Slow Cooker Tomato Sauce
- 1tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup onion, small dice
- 8 cloves garlic, crushed
- 4 1/2 lbs fresh tomatoes deseeded and chopped or 2 x large 28oz cans plum tomatoes
- 6oz can tomato paste
- 1tbsp fresh oregano or marjoram (or 2 tsp dried)
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary (or 2 tsp dried)
- 1/4 cup red wine (used chicken stock and splash of balsamic vinegar)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 generous tsp sugar
- onion powder
- 3 lbs ground turkey, browned
- fresh basil
- thyme sprigs
- Combine all ingredients except turkey in slow cooker, cook on high for 4 hours, low for 4 hours, add turkey and cook on low until sauce is desired consistency. Vent lid to thicken.
