Worlds Best Sugar Cookies
- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. confectioners sugar
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. salad oil
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. grated lemon peel
- 4 1/4 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tsp. salt
- colored sugar by decoration
- In large mixer bowl with mixer at medium speed, cream butter and sugar.
- Beat in eggs one at a time until light and fluffy. Add oil, vanilla and lemon peel.
- In another large bowl, combine flour, soda, cream of tartar and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
- Heat until well blended.
- Cover and chill dough for several hours.
- Preheat oven to 325u0b0.
- Grease cookie sheets.
- Divide dough into thirds.
- Form heaping teaspoon of dough into a ball.
- Place on cookie sheet.
- Flatten dough to a 2-inch diameter with the bottom of a glass dipped in granulated sugar.
- Sprinkle with colored sugar.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
- Let stand on cookie sheet for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Makes about 7 dozen cookies.
