Sweet-Sour Pork

  1. Brown pork slowly in hot shortening.
  2. Add 1 cup water, bouillon cube and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Cover and simmer until tender, about 1 hour.
  5. Drain pineapple, reserving syrup.
  6. Combine brown sugar and cornstarch.
  7. Add reserved syrup, vinegar, soy sauce and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  8. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until thickened and bubbly.
  9. Remove from heat.
  10. Add sauce to pork.
  11. Mix well.
  12. Stir in pineapple, green pepper and onion.
  13. Cook over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, or until vegetables are tender-crisp. Serve over rice.
  14. Makes 6 servings.
