Onion-Bread Stuffing
- 2 loaves onion bread
- (add 1 pkg onion soup mix
- to dough for 2 white loaves)
- 2 t salt
- 1/2 t pepper
- 1 1/2 t sage
- 1 t thyme
- 1 T poultry seasoning
- 1 T chopped fresh rosemary
- 3/4 c shortening
- 3/4 c minced onion
- 6 T butter
- 2 c turkey (or chicken)broth
- Trim crusts from bread and cube loaves. There should be about 18 cups. Spread onto baking sheets to allow to dry out. (May put in 250* oven)
- Combine seasonings and mix well.
- Fry onions in shortening. Add bread cubes and herb mixture and saute til browned and crisped. (Do this in 3 batches)
- Pour mixture into 3 qt casserole dish. Melt butter in broth and pour over mixture.
- Cover with foil and bake at 350* for about 30 min.
