HfcsFree Bbq Sauce
- 1 cup homemade ketchup
- 3 tablespoons minced onion (or 3 teaspoons onion powder)
- 2 or 3 tablespoons butter
- 1-2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
- Scant 1/4 cup Grade B dark maple syrup, or to taste
- 1 or 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce or 2 teaspoons Southeast Asian fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon unfiltered cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon blackstrap molasses (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (omit if using fish sauce)
- Mix all ingredients together in a small pan and simmer over low heat 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Store in an airtight glass in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
