Portuguese Sweet Bread

  1. Boil caraway seed in 1 cup water for 15 minutes.
  2. Strain and keep water.
  3. Moisten yeast with 2 tablespoons warm water; add 1 tablespoon sugar and stir until dissolved.
  4. Scald milk (combined with water).
  5. Add butter and salt.
  6. Cool; add yeast and 1/4 cup caraway liquid.
  7. Place 2 1/2 cups flour in bowl; add liquid.
  8. Beat dough; stir in 2 1/2 cups flour.
  9. Cover bowl; allow to double. Beat eggs, take out 2 tablespoons; add remaining sugar to beaten eggs.
  10. Stir into dough.
  11. Add 2 to 3 cups flour; divide dough into round loaves.
  12. Cover and allow to double.
  13. Brush surface with egg. Bake at 350u0b0 for 50 minutes.
