Sausage Biscuit Bites

  1. Cook sausage in a skillet until browned, stirring to crumble. Drain well and set aside.
  2. Combine the next 5 ingredients, mixing well.
  3. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender.
  4. Dissolve yeast in warm water; let stand 5 minutes.
  5. Add yeast mixture to buttermilk, stirring well.
  6. Add buttermilk mixture to dry ingredients, stirring just until the dry ingredients are moistened.
  7. Knead in sausage.
  8. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 3 to 4 times.
  9. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
  10. Cut with a 1 3/4-inch round cutter.
  11. Place biscuit on an ungreased baking sheet.
  12. Brush tops with melted butter.
  13. Bake at 425u0b0 for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. Yields 3 dozen biscuits.
