Marys Amazing Gingerbread Cookies
- A single recipe is:
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- 1 Tablespoon milk
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp powdered ginger
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a saucepan, Heat the molasses to the boiling point (med heat), then add the sugar, butter, and milk. Stir until melted. In a separate bowl, mix the flour with the baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Add the liquid mixture and blend well. Add a few tablespoons of water (start with 2 at a time), enough so that the dough holds together and handles easily. Roll or pat out the dough about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into gingerbread men. Bake 5-7 minutes. When cool, frost and decorate with candies, raisins, or bits of citron.
- Frosting recipe:
- About 2.5 cups confectioner's sugar
- 3 T hot water
- Beat until the frosting is thick enough to spread.
