Mrs. WarrenS Secret Silver Cream Pie
- 1 Pie shell
- 1 TBS Gelatin
- 1/3 cup of cold water
- 4 egg yolks, beaten slightly
- 11/2 cup sugar
- Juice and rind of 1 lemon
- Juice and rind of 1 orange (not too yellow)
- Chunk of butter the size of walnut
- 4 Egg whites
- 1 Cup whipping cream
- Bake pie shell.
- Soak gelatin in 1/3 cup of water and reserve.
- Combine egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar, lemon, and orange in a round bottom bowl or pan. Cook over hot water stirring constantly. Add the butter and gelatin.
- Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding a cup of sugar. Fold the thickened mixture into the egg whites while still hot.
- Pour mixture into baked pie shell.
- Refrigerate.
- Before serving, whip 1 cup of whipping cream. Put over pie, and grate orange rind over it.
