Caramel Apple Pie
- Pie Crust:
- 4 Cups unsifted cake flour
- 1 3/4 cups shortening
- 1/2 cup ice water
- 2 teas. salt
- 1 Tab. sugar
- 1 Tab vinegar
- 1 egg
- Pie:
- 28 Caramels
- 2 Tab. water
- 4 Cups apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 pie crust, unbaked
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teas. cinnamon
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/3 cups butter
- Pie Crust
- With a fork, mix together flour, salt, sugar, then shortening until crunbly. In a separate bowl, beat the remaining ingredients. Combine everything with a fork just until moistened. Mold into a ball and chill for at least 15 mins. THIS MAKES FIVE CRUSTS.
- Pie:
- Melt caramels with water in saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally until smooth. Layer apple slices and caramel sauce in pie shell. Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nuts. Cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Bake at 375 for 40-45 mins.
