Kiczek Kielbasa And Kraut
- Large Kielbasa (3lb+)- Served 13 as addl entree and still had hunk left over.
- 3 lbs of kraut - buy Polish while at kielbasa store
- 2 Tbs -Carroway seeds
- 1 Lg Onion
- 1 Apple peeled and chopped
- 1 cup - White wine or apple juice
- Brown sugar to taste.
- 1tbs - Butter
- 1) Cook kielbasa in 10/12 in sautee pan with inch of water for 15 minutes. Turn over 1/2 way. Remove and set aside. Keep boiled water if needed later.
- 2) Slice and chop onion in the pan and brown lightly with butter.
- 3) Drain then add saurkraut. Stir around then add apples, wine and carroway. Cook covered for 1/2 hr on very low. Stir occasioanlly.
- 4) Add the Kielbasa. Could be whole, pieces or sliced for another 1/2 hr. You can put in dutch oven instead of pan to get full crock pot effect. Cook low and watch for bottom burning. Add left over water if more liquid is needed.
- Makes great leftovers - sandwiches, kielbasi and eggs is great breakfast treat.
