Swedish Meatballs
- These take a while to roll into those little balls!
- 1 lb. ground beef or turkey
- 1/2 lb. ground pork
- 1/2 c finely minced onion
- 3/4 c bread crumbs
- 1 T minced parsley
- 1/2 t salt
- dash pepper
- 1 t Worchestershire sauce
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c buttermilk
- 1/8 t allspice
- 1/8 t ginger
- 1/8 t nutmeg
- 1/4 c shortening
- 1/4 c flour
- 1 t paprika - not the smoked kind!
- salt & pepper to taste
- 2 c boiling water
- 3/4 c sour cream
- Mix all ingredients above the ---- together very well.
- Form into balls about the size of a walnut.
- Brown in batches in hot fat (you can also bake these, 350 deg. for about 30 minute, but they flatten out quite a bit - for round meatballs, you've gotta fry 'em).
- Remove browned meatballs to a platter.
- Add flour, paprika, salt & pepper to skillet.
- Stir until smooth, add boiling water and cook until smooth and thickened. Add sour cream. Return meatballs to gravy and cook about 15 minutes.
- Serve on a warm platter with rice or noodles
