Elena'S Sourdough Bread
- 1 cup starter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups yellow corn meal
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1 envelope yeast disolved in 1/2 cup warm water
- flour to make a soft dough, 6 to 8 cups, more or less.
- Boil water, milk and butter together. In a large non-metal bowl put the corn meal,sugar and salt. over this pour the boiled mixture and stir well. Let cool and add the beaten eggs, starter and yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour and beat to make a soft dough. Turn out on a floured board and knead until smooth and satiny. place in a well greased bowl and let rise in a warm place until double in size. make into loaves and place in greased loaf pans. Let rise to double, bake in a pre-heated oven,375 until brown and bread leaves sides of pans.
