Christmas Treats(Popcorn Balls)
- 1/3 c. Karo (white or dark)
- 1/3 c. molasses
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. vinegar
- 2/3 c. boiling water
- 2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/8 tsp. soda
- Bring the first 6 ingredients to boil, then add cream of tartar.
- Boil to 270u0b0 crack stage.
- Remove from heat and add butter, vanilla and soda.
- Have ready 6 quarts of popped corn kept warm in the oven.
- (This helps when coating the corn with the syrup mixture.)
- Use a wooden spoon and stir in the syrup mixture, thoroughly coating the popped corn.
- Tell everyone to get their hands ready to form the balls.
- (Wash and butter hands.)
- Popcorn balls can be made to your size criteria.
- Some like big ones.
- I make mine small and lightly packed.
