German Chocolate Cake
- 2 C sugar
- 1 C margarine
- 4 beaten egg yolks
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 package German sweet chocolate
- 1/2 C boiling water
- 1 Tbsp vanilla
- 1 C buttermilk
- 2.5 C sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp soda
- 4 egg whites, beaten well.
- Cream together margarine and sugar.
- Add egg yolks, beating thoroughly after each addition.
- Add salt and soda to flour.
- Then add buttermilk alternately, with flour mixture.
- Melt over low heat chocolate in 1/2 C water.
- Add vanilla and cool.
- Add chocolate mixture to batter.
- Mix well.
- Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Pour into greased and floured pans, and bake in 350u0b0 degree over 30 to 35 minutes.
- Makes 2 10" or 3 8" layers.
