Sausage Bread
- 1 package fresh pizza dough
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 8 large sausage links (hot or sweet)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 lb provolone cheese (sliced)
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese (part skim)
- Olive oil
- In large frying pan, put 3 tablespoons olive oil.
- Chop garlic and sautee for 1 minute.
- Pull sausage meat out of casing into bite size pieces and place into frying pan. I prefer the taste of the sausage when it comes from the links over the loose type. The bite size pieces look better in the slice as well.
- Sautee until pieces of sausage are browned. Drain fat off.
- Roll out the pizza dough (works best when nice and cold) to a square shape about 15 inches both long and wide.
- Spread tomato sauce all over the dough.
- Place slices of provolone cheese all over.
- Distribute the mozzarella cheese on top of the provolone.
- Place drained sausage on top of all of the above, evenly distributed.
- Roll sides in about 2 inches then roll the entire dough carefully making sure ingredients stay tucked in.
- Place rolled dough into a roasting pan that has been lightly greased with olive oil or Pam.
- Place a few slits in the top of the dough to let steam escape
- Bake at 350 for approximately 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. The crust will continue to brown after you take it out of the oven so don't let it get too dark.
- *You can also add peppers and onions if you want. Comes out yummy!
