Grandma Sophie'S Cheese Bread
- For Bread dough:
- 1 Egg
- Pinch of Salt
- 1 cup of WHOLE milk, not skim or low fat
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup salted butter cut into pats
- 2 1/2 cups bread flour
- 1 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast
- Add later:
- 1/2 cup raisins
- For topping:
- 1 small container of cottage cheese, drained
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- Preheat oven to 350. Set bread machine to dough. Put ingredients into bread machine in the order listed above. After 20 minutes add 1/2 cup raisins. When the dough is ready put in a greased 9 x 12 pan. Cover and set on top of stove while making the topping. If the dough rises above the top of the pan punch it down so the topping won't slide off.
- For topping, mix cottage cheese with about 1/3 cup sugar (adjust sugar to taste). Add 1 egg yolk and mix well. Spread on top of dough. Bake for 1 hour.
