President Ike'S Cake(Over 50 Years Old - 1940)
- 1/2 c. butter
- 2 c. sugar
- 2/3 c. cocoa
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. sour milk
- 3 egg whites, beaten stiff
- Cream butter and sugar together.
- Dissolve cocoa in boiling water.
- Mix until smooth.
- Cool.
- Add egg yolks and vanilla to sugar and butter mixture well.
- Add cooled cocoa solution.
- Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
- Have sour milk at room temperature.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with milk in thirds. Beat until smooth after each addition.
- Fold in beaten egg whites.
- Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch pans.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 30 minutes.
