Cherry Cake

  1. Cream together sugar and shortening.
  2. Add eggs and beat thoroughly.
  3. Add 1 cup of the flour, salt, soda, baking powder and spices and mix thoroughly.
  4. Add and mix remaining 1 3/4 cups flour, milk and cherry juice.
  5. Fold in drained pitted cherries and the nuts.
  6. Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  7. Bake at 350u0b0 for 1 hour.
  8. After removing cake from oven, let it stand on cake rack about 5 minutes, then remove from pan.
  9. Let cake cool on cake rack. Serve while it is still a little bit warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
