Mrs. Horton'S Apple Cake
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk (to make sour milk, add 1 tsp. vinegar to 1 c. milk. Let set 5-10 min.)
- 1 tbsp. cider vinegar
- 2-4 c. chopped apples
- 3 tbsp. chopped nuts
- 1. Cream together butter and sugars until fluffy.
- 2. Add eggs, one at a time.
- 3. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, & cinnamon.
- 4. Add dry ingredients, alternately with buttermilk and vinegar, mixing after each addition.
- 5. Fold in chopped apples.
- 6. Spread into greased 9" x 12" pan.
- 7. Top with chopped nuts.
- 8. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour.
