Applesauce Cake(Fruit Cake)
- 1 c. butter and shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 pt. strawberry preserves
- 2 level tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. hot water
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp.vanilla
- 1 lb. seedless raisins
- 1 c. finely chopped walnuts
- 4 c. flour (use 1 c. to roll raisins in)
- 1 small jar maraschino cherries, sliced in half
- Cream butter and shortening with sugar.
- Dissolve baking soda in hot water.
- Mix in order given.
- Bake in floured and greased tube cake pan at 350u0b0 for 1 3/4 hours or until done.
- Cake can be baked slower.
- It is moist and weighs about 5 pounds.
