The Boys Favorite Southern Macaroni And Cheese
- 1/2 pound macaroni pasta or favorite pasta shape
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk or 2% milk
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cooked smoked ham
- 1/2 pound sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 1/4 pound gruyere cheese, grated
- 1/2 pound provolone cheese, grated
- 1/2 pound fontina cheese, grated
- 1 cup mozzarella, grated
- 1/2 cup parmesean cheese,grated fine
- 1/4 stick butter, unsalted, sliced thin
- Bring 2 quarts water to boil, add 1 tablespoon salt to boiling water, add pasta, cook according to package directions, until just barely al dente. Drain pasta, add to large glass buttered casserole dish. Add custard base liquid ingredients with seasonings, gently mix in ham and cheese except mozzarella and parmesean. Dot top with thin slices of butter. Top with mozzarella and parmesean cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour on middle rack.
