Dried Apple Cakes

  1. Cook dried apples in 4 cups water until tender.
  2. Drain and save juice.
  3. Measure 2 cups juice, adding water if needed.
  4. Mix 1/4 cup sugar with dry baking mix.
  5. Stir in sourdough starter to moisten flour.
  6. Turn out onto a floured surface; knead lightly. Pat or roll to a 12 x 18-inch rectangle.
  7. Sprinkle with apples. Roll, starting at short end.
  8. Cut into 12 slices.
  9. Put remaining sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter and the 2 cups apple liquid into a large deep skillet.
  10. Bring to boil.
  11. Gently lower apple slices into hot syrup.
  12. Bake in a 375u0b0 oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
