Balloon Bread
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbs. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 2 Tbs. melted butter
- 2/3 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup water
- peanut oil for frying
- In a large bowl whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder and cumin.
- Into the bowl stir the melted butter, yogurt and water until a dough forms.
- Remove the dough to a floured surface and knead about 10 minutes.
- Place the dough back into the bowl, cover and let rest 10 minutes.
- In a large saute pan or wok, add a few inches of peanut oil and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 375 on a deep-fry thermometer.
- Roll the dough out to a thickness of 1/8-inch and cut out 2-inch rounds.
- Carefully place the pieces into the oil (in batches) and deep-fry until golden.
