Mary'S Chocolate Dessert

  1. Preheat oven to 350-375 degrees.
  2. Spray or butter 8x8" pan
  3. Wisk dry ingredients together; sift if lumpy. Add wet ingredients. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  4. Sauce: Mix sugars & cocoa until well blended in a medium saucepan; slowly add hot water stirring constantly to remove lumps. Heat until sauce starts to simmer. Pour on top of batter. Bake until cake pulls away from sides. Sauce sinks to the bottom, leaving a rich, darker cake. The nuts may be omitted, although there will be less volume. I preferr walnuts.
  5. Slightly sweetened whipped cream on the top provides a nice contrast.
