Shoo Fly Pie
- 1 FILLING
- 1 cup Molasses
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 cup Warm Water
- 1 CRUMB TOPPING
- 2 cups Flour
- 3/4 cup Brown Sugar (firmly packed)
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1. Prepare an all-purpose pie crust. bottom only
- 2. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- 3. In a mixing bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and sugar.
- 4. Add the butter to the flour mix and mash the butter pieces into the flour mix with a wooden spoon so that the butter forms fine crumbs.
- 5. In another mixing bowl, dissolve the baking soda into the warm water. Add the molasses. Whisk the mixture until foamy.
- 6. Pour the molasses mixture into the chilled piecrust.
- 7. Sprinkle the flour/crumb mixture over the top.
- 8. Place the pie in the oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees. Bake until the crust is brown and the filling is set. About 25 - 30 minutes.
