Walnut Spice Cake
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
- Caramel Frosting
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- Grease and flour two 9 x 1 1/2-inch round pans.
- Cream shortening and sugars.
- Add remaining ingredients except walnuts and frosting.
- Beat on low speed for 30 seconds. Scrape bowl constantly.
- Beat on high 3 minutes, scraping bowl. Stir in walnuts.
- Pour into pans.
- Bake 35 to 40 minutes.
- Cool 10 minutes.
- Remove from pans and cool completely.
