Spicy Whirligig Loaves
- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm, not hot, water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. scalded milk, cooled to lukewarm
- 1/2 c. soft butter or fluffy golden shortening
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 7 c. sifted flour (about)
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. sesame seed
- In a bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm, not hot, water.
- Add sugar and salt.
- Allow the combined milk, butter and eggs to be lukewarm.
- When cooled, add to yeast mixture.
- Add enough flour to make a soft ball of dough.
- Knead on a floured board until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl.
- Oil top of dough.
- Cover. Place in oven alongside a saucepan of boiling water.
- At intervals, reheat the water to boiling.
