Layered Pie

  1. Have ready a baked 9-inch pastry shell or a rich crumb crust. Soak gelatin in cold water.
  2. Scald milk.
  3. Mix sugar and cornstarch together, then add egg yolks and beat well.
  4. Stir this mixture into scalded milk; cook over low heat or hot water until the custard coats the spoon.
  5. Stir constantly.
  6. Take out 1 cup custard and add it to the melted chocolate.
  7. Beat with rotary beater until cool, then add the teaspoon of vanilla.
  8. Pour into the pie shell and chill.
